Agartala: The BJP released 45 names for the upcoming Agartala Municipal Corporation elections on November 3. The party dumped current Mayor Dipak Majumder. Majumder serves as the MLA for the Ramnagar Assembly constituency. Tripura heads to the polls on November 27.

Voters will cast ballots in 21 civic bodies across the state. State BJP president Abhishek Debroy confirmed the core committee finalized the list after clearing it with central leadership. The party still needs to fill six more slots for the municipal corporation. They will announce those names this Wednesday.

The party cited a strict internal policy. "An MLA has duties towards the people," Debroy said. He insisted the party will run on the record of Majumder’s past work despite his removal. The BJP also cut ties with several sitting corporators. Officials cited shifting reservation requirements and internal party math for these decisions.

Debroy expects to publish candidate lists for the remaining municipalities and nagar panchayats soon. As for the Tipra Motha Party, the BJP offered its ally three wards across various municipalities to share the ballot.
