Agartala: Tripura State Election Commissioner P K Chakraborty kicked off preparations for upcoming urban local body elections on October 8. The commission must hold votes for the Agartala Municipal Corporation and 20 other urban bodies before the current terms expire on December 9. Officials have started the clock on the election process.

Chakraborty held a high-level briefing with top brass from all eight districts, including District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, the DGP-in-charge, and the IG of Law and Order. The group reviewed security, election machinery, and legal requirements. "Discussions were held on the functioning of the election machinery, security arrangements and preparations required ahead of the formal announcement of the election schedule," Chakraborty said.

The Urban Development Department already finished mapping out polling stations. Officials issued the draft publication for the process and expect the final version by October 15. The commission is now scrubbing existing rules to ensure every official understands the protocol. They aim to keep the entire operation free, fair, and peaceful before the formal schedule drops.
