Agartala: The CPI(M) is hitting the streets. Party state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury announced October 3 that the opposition is gearing up for upcoming Urban Local Bodies elections. The party is busy with organizational work in urban zones and public outreach throughout the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.

Chaudhury wants to make civic accountability the main issue. He argues that urban progress requires more than just fixing roads, drains, and water lines. He claims the BJP government talks big but delivers little. “Again and again, targets are being announced, but they are not being achieved,” Chaudhury said. He insists the current situation is bleak even in newly developing areas.

The opposition leader also alleges that criminal syndicates control daily life. He claims these groups demand cuts on everything from house repairs to buying steel rods, bricks, and cement. He says locals are tired of the constant graft. “We have fought earlier and we will fight again. We are also receiving a good response from the people,” he noted. The party plans to push for a shift toward democratic management as they head into the vote.
