Agartala: Tripura election officials laid the groundwork for the 2026 civic polls. The State Election Commission finalized draft notifications for 784 polling stations spread across 21 Urban Local Bodies. This includes the Agartala Municipal Corporation, various Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats.

District Magistrates and Collectors act as District Municipal Election Officers. They recently notified these stations within their specific areas. Commission Secretary Anurag Sen confirmed the push to get the draft work done ahead of the state-wide vote.

The clock is ticking. Stakeholders have until September 21 to file claims or objections regarding the proposed locations. Local authorities must dispose of these submissions by September 23. The final notification is set for September 25.

Sen noted that the commission is still waiting on final green lights for the rest of the process. "The detailed schedule and guidelines will be made public once the necessary approvals are obtained," said Sen. Officials have not yet released the full election calendar or official guidelines for the 2026 contests.
