Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang launched the Institute for Transforming Sikkim on November 6. He held the ceremony at his official residence, Mintokgang, in Gangtok. The new center aims to steer the state toward long-term development. It will act as a multidisciplinary think tank to boost research, innovation, and evidence-based policy work.

The state government intends for the institute to serve as an intellectual engine for local progress. It brings together experts, academics, researchers, and government stakeholders to turn concepts into reality. Tamang stated, "The institute would bring together policymakers, experts, researchers, academic institutions and other stakeholders to translate ideas into practical policies and measurable outcomes."

Work will span several sectors: agriculture, education, healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, energy, and employment. The team will also target skill development and climate resilience to ensure benefits hit every village. By improving coordination between departments, the body hopes to refine grassroots planning and governance monitoring.

Growth must respect nature. Tamang noted that future planning relies on sustainability, economic resilience, and social empowerment. The project aligns with national goals for Viksit Bharat @ 2047. The state Information Technology Department designed the official logo and website for the new institute.
