Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang wants Pakyong transformed into a model district. He issued the call on August 13 at a pre-Independence Day event. The program took place at the Government Senior Secondary School in Mamring. It featured a football tournament organized by the Rhenock constituency Independence Day Celebration Committee.

Pakyong became an independent district back in December 2021. Tamang says building the area requires a shared vision. He highlighted ongoing work on the district hospital, the new administrative center, and the Chief Minister's Model School at Assam Lingzey. These sites aim to bolster local services. The government also intends to upgrade urban amenities, roads, and tourism infrastructure across the region.

Tamang told officials and residents to stop chasing individual goals. He demanded they pool their efforts instead. "Unity and collective responsibility" would be essential to making Pakyong a model district, he said. The Chief Minister also promised more financial aid for patients seeking medical treatment.

State ministers Raju Basnet and Puran Gurung joined other local leaders at the ceremony. Organizers honored Tamang for his work on tourism and economic self-reliance. He concluded by urging citizens to join the state-level Tiranga Yatra on August 14 to mark the holiday.
