Sikkim CM Announces Pay Hikes at Independence Day Parade

Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang prioritized public welfare during the 80th Independence Day event at Paljor Stadium this Saturday. He confirmed the government remains focused on development, citing citizen trust as its "greatest source of strength and inspiration." Tamang wants to build a golden, prosperous, and empowered Sikkim.

The Chief Minister awarded gallantry medals, police honors, and Shrawan Kumar Awards to residents. He also recognized top performers from the 2025-26 Class X and XII board exams alongside various sportspersons and cooperative societies. The state government handed out State Meritorious Service Awards to cap off the ceremony.

Tamang boosted morale with financial news. State employees and pensioners get a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief, effective January 1, 2026. Officials expect to pay the arrears before the Dashain 2026 festival.

The 2nd IRBn took the top spot for Division A platoons. Home Guards and Civil Defence claimed the Division B title. Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School secured the honor for best school contingent. Ministers, MLAs, and police brass watched the parade from the stands as the Tricolour flew above the capital.
