Gangtok: Sikkim is gearing up for the second Aama Samman Diwas. The state-level event hits the Rangpo Playground soon. It runs alongside the 9th Jan Unmukti Diwas. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang will lead the proceedings as chief guest.
Bikash Basnet, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, confirmed the move to the larger venue. The shift aims to boost public turnout and celebrate mothers from every corner of the state. Officials added two new award categories to the initiative this year.
The Aama Samman Puraskar gives 51,000 rupees to one mother in every Assembly constituency. This specific prize targets women who do not receive the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana. The state wants to expand its reach with this decision.
The Pragatisheel Aama Puraskar rewards three mothers who used Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana funds effectively. The top prize winner takes home 5 lakh rupees. Second place gets 3 lakh rupees, while the third recipient earns 2 lakh rupees. The state government says the goal is to honor mothers, stating, "The awards are aimed at recognising the role of mothers and highlighting examples of effective use of government assistance for economic and social progress."
