Gangtok: Soreng district in Sikkim grabbed the top national spot for health and nutrition. NITI Aayog’s Champions of Change Dashboard confirmed the ranking for the June 2026 quarter. The district earned a score of 78.7. It also climbed to a third place Delta Rank after boosting its composite score from 49.5 to 55.5 in just six months.

District officials credited this jump to tight coordination and saturation of services in remote areas. Data shows 100 percent antenatal care registration. Institutional deliveries and child immunizations hit 99 percent. Tuberculosis care also improved. Eighty-one of 83 patients cleared treatment, marking a 97 percent success rate.

The district ramped up outreach through the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Teams held 146 Ayushman Arogya Shivirs, screening 7,636 people at sites ranging from construction zones to monasteries. Officials also checked over 85 percent of the target population for diabetes and hypertension.

Community mental health remains a priority. The Hello Mann initiative, run with the Mental Health Action Trust, provides weekly clinics and home visits. They currently treat 91 patients. District Collector Dhiraj Subedi said the achievement was the result of collective efforts by government departments, frontline health workers, local institutions and communities.

Soreng plans to bridge remaining gaps across all five program themes. They are keeping the pressure on to maintain these gains in last-mile service delivery.
