Kohima: A Manipur government delegation traveled to Nagaland for a two-day visit on September 18 and 19. They came to examine the state's approach to Universal Health Coverage. The team focused on the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme. They wanted to see how Nagaland handles service delivery, financing, and tech.
Universal Health Coverage aims to provide quality care without draining a patient's bank account. India remains committed to these goals under the 1978 Alma-Ata Declaration, the 2018 Astana Declaration, and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 3.8. Nagaland manages its local insurance through the Department of Health and Family Welfare and the Nagaland Health Protection Society.
This agency also handles the AB PM-JAY program. Since 2022, the state scheme has covered every bona fide citizen not already protected by federal insurance. The goal is better financial security. Thavaseelan K, the CEO of the Nagaland Health Protection Society, praised the partnership. "The visit facilitated exchange of experiences and best practices between the two States and reaffirmed their commitment to continued knowledge-sharing and inter-state collaboration to strengthen public health insurance and UHC initiatives," he said.

While the original reporting pegged the visit to 2025, officials confirmed the sessions took place in September 2026. The visiting team aimed to pull apart the mechanics of the state system to see if it holds up under real-world financial pressure.
