Nagaland Health Department Confirms Free Hepatitis Care

Kohima: The Nagaland Department of Health and Family Welfare confirmed that screening, viral load testing, and treatment for Hepatitis B and C are free at state facilities. The statement follows a request from the Network of Nagaland Drugs and AIDS Organization. They wanted clarity regarding advertisements tied to World Hepatitis Day 2026.

Patients can get screenings at District Hospitals, most Community Health Centres, and select Primary Health Centres or Health and Wellness Centres. Free viral load testing remains exclusive to District Hospitals. Those locations also serve as designated Treatment Centres. The department noted, "For any information on services under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP), the public has been advised to contact the nearest government health facility."

Districts now have authorization to provide free baseline tests for positive cases. This list covers Liver Function Tests, Renal Function Tests, and Complete Blood Counts. Patients also receive free Ultrasound Sonography, Fibroscans, and Prothrombin Time checks.
