Kohima: Nagaland Department of Health and Family Welfare confirmed that free Hepatitis B and C services are available across the state. This move follows a formal request from the Network of Nagaland Drugs and AIDS Organization (NNagaDAO). They wanted clarity after confusion surrounding World Hepatitis Day 2026 press ads.
Screening tests are free at all District Hospitals and most Community Health Centres. Some Primary Health Centres and Health and Wellness Centres also offer them. District Hospitals act as designated treatment centers for those testing positive. They handle all free viral load testing for both B and C strains.
The department authorized local districts to provide a full suite of baseline tests at no charge to patients. This includes Liver Function Test, Renal Function Test, and Complete Blood Count. Doctors also provide Ultrasound Sonography, Fibroscan, and Prothrombin Time testing. The department urged citizens to reach out for help. They stated: "For any information on services under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP), the public has been advised to contact the nearest government health facility."
