Mon Medical College construction delayed by eight months

Kohima: Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister P Paiwang Konyak inspected the Mon Medical College site on September 30. He pushed the team to speed up. The project now faces an eight-month delay. The contractor asked for more time after weather and landslides halted the work. Landslides blocked material deliveries for two months.

Executive Engineer Er Therouovituo Pienyu confirmed the project is 65 percent complete. Work continues on the college and administrative blocks, hostels, staff quarters, and the autopsy block. Indoor sports facilities, the nursing college, and the guest house are nearly finished. Construction must move fast now that the working season has returned.

Konyak visited the District Hospital alongside Commissioner and Secretary Kevileno Angami, Secretary S Tainiu Khiam, Principal Director Dr Keveduyi Theyo, and Joint Director Dr Kika Longkumer. He wants the facility ready for students. The District Hospital serves as the designated teaching hub for the college. Konyak stated, "The District Hospital, as the designated teaching hospital for Mon Medical College, must be equipped with all the infrastructure, facilities and services required of a teaching institution."

Officials inspected the campus water source, helipad, and residential buildings. The team also held a meeting with the Mon Village Council and landowners to resolve site concerns. The state government promised full support to get the work done.
