Nagaland Proposes New AIIMS Hospital Site

Kohima: The Indian government may soon bring an AIIMS hospital to Nagaland. State Health and Family Welfare Minister P Paiwang Konyak confirmed the proposal during an Independence Day speech at the RSA Ground in Tseminyu on August 15. The state must provide enough land to secure the project. Officials acted fast.

The health department already sent a formal request to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The proposal includes 200 acres at the proposed Nagaki City in Chümoukedima. "Accordingly, the health & family welfare department has submitted its proposal for AIIMS with 200 acres of land at the proposed Nagaki City in Chümoukedima to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India," the minister said.

Konyak also highlighted ongoing public health initiatives during the event. The department aims for a TB-Free Nagaland, citing the declaration of 214 villages as tuberculosis-free on World TB Day in collaboration with the Rural Development department. Furthermore, the state kicked off the 100-Day Ayushman Student Coverage Mission in May 2026 to push for universal health coverage and total Ayushman card saturation.

The celebration included a flag hoisting, a parade from the 4th NAP B Company and local ex-servicemen, and the distribution of District Commendation awards. Key figures in attendance included MLA Ar Jwenga Seb, Tseminyu Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch, and Superintendent of Police Talisunep Imchen. The day wrapped with folk music and a football exhibition match.
