Kohima: Dr. Mereninla Senlem, principal director of the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the Diphupar Primary Health Centre on Monday. Located at K Khel, the facility represents an upgrade from the village's previous sub-centre. It was completed under the 2021-22 National Health Mission project. Dr. Senlem expects the site to function as a Health and Wellness Centre. It will focus on preventive care, lifestyle advice, and early disease detection.
The facility provides routine services like immunization and testing for tuberculosis and malaria. Staff will also screen patients for diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. Dr. Senlem noted that the site offers a necessary alternative to expensive private care. She encouraged the village to seek National Quality Assurance Standards certification to potentially earn Rs 3 lakh for the local Health Committee. She stressed that the facility belongs to the public, not just the state. "The PHC should not be viewed merely as a place for treatment but as a Health and Wellness Centre," she stated.
Despite the opening ceremony, local leaders flagged major issues. The building currently lacks beds and basic medical equipment. GB Pukhalu Awomi stated that the Diphupar Village Council already spent up to Rs 7 lakh of its own funds on a boundary wall. He demanded to know when the facility would start actual operations. "We are inaugurating an empty building," Awomi said. The village remains firm in its push for immediate staffing and supplies.
