Kohima: Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir won a seat on the governing body of AIIMS Guwahati. The Lok Sabha declared him elected following a unanimous vote. Jamir fills the vacancy left by former MP Pradyut Bordoloi.
Official records from Lok Sabha Bulletin 5973, dated August 7, 2026, confirm the selection process. Lawmakers passed a motion on July 28, 2026, to trigger the election under the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956. Two candidates initially filed papers, but a withdrawal left Jamir as the only person in the running. The Lok Sabha Secretariat notified the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the result on August 10.
Jamir now moves to help shape policy for the massive regional medical hub. He plans to push for better research and cheaper care for residents in the Northeast. Jamir said, "I would work constructively for the development of AIIMS Guwahati and the broader healthcare infrastructure in the Northeast."
He intends to keep regional health concerns on the national agenda. AIIMS Guwahati serves as a primary center for medical training and advanced care for the entire region.

The seat opened up after Pradyut Bordoloi stepped down from his post. Beyond basic policy, Jamir says he will push for better medical education and stronger health systems to ensure the region gets a fair shake in national planning. He thanked his fellow lawmakers for backing his move to the board.
