Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir is pushing the Ministry of Railways to restart passenger train services to Tuli. He raised the demand in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377 on July 21. Jamir wants a link between Dimapur and Tuli, complete with a parcel van. It would help students, traders, and daily commuters.
The Tuli line ran on metre gauge through the 1990s. Workers finished the upgrade to broad gauge in 2000. A trial passenger run between Tuli and Mariani went off without a hitch in 2007. Despite the successful test, regular services never started. The infrastructure remains ready for use.
Jamir also wants an extension of broad gauge services from Guwahati to Tuli. This would link Nagaland and Upper Assam. Goods trains already move between Amguri and Tuli. The route brought in nearly Rs 30 crore last financial year. Jamir said this proves the line is viable. He noted, "restoring the service would improve regional connectivity and support economic activity in the area." He promised the government that the public supports the move and expects early action.
