Nagaland MP Demands Proof After Assam CM Links State to Guwahati Shooting

Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir says Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma must prove his claims. Sarma recently alleged that a firearm license used in a lethal Guwahati shooting came from the Nagaland government. The shooting occurred Monday night at Hotel Bilas Inn, where five people died. Four victims were members of a single business family, while another person remains injured.

The violence erupted following a management dispute between the hotel owners and their leaseholder. Police identified the accused as Ghanakanta Gogoi. Assam authorities have since set up a Special Investigation Team to handle the probe. Jamir spoke in Kohima on Thursday, insisting the state government cannot be held responsible without verified evidence.

"Until and unless it is authenticated, the Chief Minister should not blame the counterpart State Government," Jamir said. He urged the Nagaland administration to verify the documents immediately. Because the matter involves two state governments, Jamir believes officials must resolve the conflict through formal state channels.
