Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma opened the Amingaon Swimming Complex on August 28. Located in Kamrup district, this facility brings Olympic-sized standards to Guwahati. The venue features a primary pool, a practice pool, and dedicated diving facilities. It also includes a gym and room for 1,500 spectators.
The state partnered with the Sports Authority of India to transform the site into a National Centre of Excellence in Swimming. Sarma expects the center to sharpen the skills of local talent. Better training means better results. He noted that swimming produces a high number of Olympic medals.
Sarma remains focused on the bigger picture for state athletes. "The process of strengthening sports infrastructure is ongoing," Sarma said. He promised to keep building better facilities to help Indian swimmers thrive on the global stage. After the formal ceremony, the Chief Minister performed push-ups at the pool, sharing a clip of the workout on X.
