Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed plans to expand the rail corridor between Guwahati and Delhi to four tracks. This upgrade aims to improve freight and passenger movement throughout the region. Officials have already started converting seven key national railway stretches into four-track corridors. Work is moving fast.
Sarma said, "The expansion of the railway network will enable an increase in the number of passenger and freight trains operating along the route." This surge in service frequency will begin once officials finalize the remaining project formalities. The state expects these upgrades to strengthen links between Assam, the national capital, and other major hubs.
Construction crews will also start building a second railway bridge over the Brahmaputra at Saraighat soon. Sarma considers this expansion a vital step for the state. Better rail access remains a top priority.
