Guwahati: Assam electrified every mile of its railway network. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the news on September 14. Trains now run on electric traction across the state. This shift promises cleaner rail travel. It effectively kills the need for diesel locomotives.
The project took 12 years to finish. Before 2014, large areas of Assam lacked even broad-gauge tracks. The state infrastructure finally matches its neighbors. Sarma highlighted the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also thanked Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with former ministers Piyush Goyal and Suresh Prabhu.
Sarma praised the central government for the push. He stated, "This has been possible due to the untiring efforts of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji in bringing Assam at par with other peers."
The Chief Minister credited the team for steering the mission to completion. The electrification marks a massive change for the region. Better, faster, and cleaner transit remains the goal. The state move helps the environment.
