Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma opened the new Integrated District Commissioner’s Office for Kamrup Metropolitan on Wednesday. The building stands in Guwahati’s Rupnagar neighborhood. It aims to cut red tape. Officials built the 12,695-square-metre facility at a cost of Rs 81 crore, a significant increase from the Rs 58 crore estimate set during the 2023 bhumi pujan ceremony.
This hub gathers key administrative departments under one roof to simplify service access for residents. Sarma attended the event alongside Dispur MLA Pradyut Bordoloi, Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania, and various other dignitaries. The project serves as a model for the state government’s plan to upgrade offices in all 35 districts into efficient, people-centric centers.
Sarma linked the new building to his goal of cutting down on bureaucracy. "We are working with a holistic approach to develop District Commissioner Offices across all of Assam’s 35 districts as people-centric centres, delivering governance to the people," he said. The government expects this shift to reduce the number of required trips to offices while making those visits faster and more productive for the public.
