Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma added eight new sub-districts to the state map on August 15. The move coincided with the 80th Independence Day. He intends to bring the government closer to the people. Administration needs to be local. The new units consist of Kamalpur, Barhampur, Rangnadi, Chichibargaon, Chabua-Lahowal, Khumtai, Katigorah, and Barkhola.

Sarma stated the move is "part of the state government's efforts to strengthen grassroots-level administration and improve the delivery of government services." Officials expect these units to speed up the rollout of various state schemes and programs. Residents should find it easier to access public services under the new setup. The state government continues to reshape its administrative structure to boost efficiency across Assam.
