Guwahati: Assam is building a state-run streaming service. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the project on July 13 to showcase regional cinema, folk music, literature, and documentaries. The platform stems from the Assam Budget 2026 vision. It gives local creators a new home.

Sarma took to X to challenge existing streaming giants. "Dear OTT platforms, make some room, Assam's joining the list," he wrote. Officials hope this move boosts indigenous storytelling. The state joins Meghalaya, which already operates the Hello Meghalaya platform to stream Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia content. Specific timelines for the Assam launch remain under wraps.

The Chief Minister shifted focus to governance on July 14. He told the Assam Legislative Assembly that the state will open 14 new Circle Officer offices. This expansion aims to speed up revenue administration. It brings services closer to the people.

Sarma made the announcement on the seventh day of the Budget Session. The cabinet plans to finalize the move this week. Once approved, the government will release the locations and operational logistics for the new offices. These sites will reduce the burden on existing staff while decentralizing public services across the state.
