Guwahati: Assam plans to launch a dedicated over-the-top platform to showcase regional cinema, folk music, documentaries, and literature. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the project on July 13. The initiative stems from a vision laid out in the Assam Budget 2026.

Sarma took to X to share the news. "Dear OTT platforms, make some room, Assam's joining the list." The platform aims to give local filmmakers, writers, and musicians a digital space to reach wider audiences. It will function as a hub for stories rooted in state traditions.

Officials have not confirmed a launch date. The government has yet to release an operational model. This move follows a national trend of states investing in digital streaming to preserve local culture. Meghalaya recently debuted Hello Meghalaya. That service streams Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia content to viewers within and beyond the Northeast. Assam now looks to mirror that success by building its own creative ecosystem.
