Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi slammed the BJP-led government on August 27 for allegedly steering flood relief cash to its own supporters. He claims the administration handed out 15,000 rupees to party workers while ignoring those loyal to the Congress. The accusation surfaced during a booth-level convention held by the Dhing and Nij-Dhing Block Congress committees.
Gogoi did not hold back. He openly accused the ruling party of "vote chori" as they prepare for the upcoming by-election in the Dhing Assembly constituency. The event drew a crowd of party brass, including Rakibul Hussain, AICC general secretary Manoj Chauhan, MLAs Nurul Huda, Tanzil Hussain, Nurul Islam, and Mira Borthakur.
The MP also weighed in on local political rumors. He addressed talk that Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Devasish Sharma might jump into the race as a BJP candidate. Meanwhile, former MLA Shivamoni Bora confirmed she is still gunning for the party ticket but will toe the line on the final decision. The leaders also addressed recent comments from CPI(ML) head Akhil Gogoi regarding his lack of support for the Congress in the Nagaon Lok Sabha contest.
