Guwahati: Assam minister Pijush Hazarika took a shot at Congress MP Rakibul Hussain on September 18. He claimed the leader is trying to crawl back to Nagaon because his standing in Dhubri collapsed. The comments came during a BJP rally in Juria Dagao. Hazarika didn't mince words.
"His balloon has burst in Dhubri," Hazarika said. He alleged that Hussain wanted the Congress party to give the Nagaon bypoll ticket to Dr. Durlav Chamua. The plan supposedly involved Chamua handing the seat back to Hussain for a future election run.
Nagaon sits vacant after Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi moved to another district. Congress now backs former Batadroba MLA Sibamoni Bora for the bypoll. The BJP countered with candidate Debashish Sharma. Hazarika pointed to a crowd of 30,000 minority community members as proof of shifting loyalty. He insists the BJP will take the seat.

The pressure on the opposition is mounting beyond the bypoll rhetoric. In a separate development in Samaguri, MLA Jitu Goswami announced that a wave of Congress workers has abandoned the party to join the BJP. Among those who switched sides were members of the Singimari Mandal Congress and a regional panchayat representative.
Goswami declared the Shingimari area officially Congress-free. He stated that these longtime workers defected because they grew fed up with the party, and he insisted that Congress now exists only in media reports rather than among the actual voters.

Beyond the rallies, the campaign trail moved to Tinisukia Khelpathar for a Laharighat LAC Karyakarta Sammelan. Minister Pijush Hazarika, joined by Dispur MLA Pradyut Bordoloi, shifted gears to demand more legwork from the party faithful. He directed workers to knock on every door in Laharighat to drum up support for candidate Debashish Sharma.
Organizers frame these gatherings as a surge in local momentum. More opposition leaders and workers crossed the floor to join the BJP ranks during the Tinisukia event, adding to the party's claims of a shrinking Congress base in the constituency.
