Guwahati: BJP MLA Diplu Ranjan Sarma blasted Congress MP Rakibul Hussain on Sunday, September 27. He gave him a new nickname. He called him TV Hussain. The swipe came during a campaign march in Samaguri ahead of the Nagaon bypoll.
Youth leader Mujibur Rahman led the march from Konuwamari to Sonaribali. Sarma joined the crowd. He played carrom with locals before hitting the campaign trail hard. He took aim at the opposition party’s leadership and its public conduct.
Sarma did not hold back. He attacked Gaurav Gogoi for being the most unsuccessful president in the history of independent India. He demanded better behavior from the opposition ranks. "Rakibul Hussain is different. He does not understand decorum at all," Sarma said.
The MLA predicted a bleak future for the Congress. He claimed the party is falling apart so quickly that they will soon run out of people willing to serve as president. Meanwhile, the BJP is betting big on its own candidate, Debashish Sharma. Sarma insisted that local support will secure a landslide victory for his party in the No. 9 Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.

The political heat in Samaguri turned ugly on September 28. Rakibul Hussain faced a protest during a campaign stop for Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora in the Khatowal area. Locals swarmed his arrival, waving black flags and chanting slogans demanding he go back.
The demonstrators targeted both the MP and his son, Tanzil Hussain, while also shouting against the party candidate. The crowd explicitly denounced the father and son duo, vowing that their style of local influence would no longer fly in Samaguri. Similar protests have dogged the congressman across his former stronghold in recent days.
