Guwahati: Assam BJP leaders went on the attack November 2. They accused the Congress party of disrespecting Assam Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi during a massive rally at New Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. BJP spokesperson Ranjib Kumar Sarmah told reporters in Guwahati that Congress officials shoved the former All Assam Students' Union general secretary into the fourth row of a secondary stage. Meanwhile, national figures and political dynasties took the prime spots.

Sarmah blasted the lack of respect shown to regional leadership. He questioned why the Congress prioritized figures like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav, and Tejashwi Yadav while sidelining local allies. The BJP claims this snub hurt public sentiment across Assam. The event was supposed to be a show of force for the opposition.

The rally failed to meet its own goals. Congress leadership originally planned to bring at least 3,000 workers from Assam by train. This effort fell apart. District leaders tried to call Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi for planning, but he remained unreachable. No organizational meetings occurred before the trip, leading many district-level officials to bail on the event entirely. Leaders from Dhubri and Jorhat also failed to bring their promised crowds.

The BJP did not hold back. "The Congress party has become completely alienated from the people of Assam," Sarmah said. He pointed to the low turnout as proof of organizational rot. The party also accused the opposition of preaching democracy while clinging to dynastic politics on stage.
