Guwahati: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal championed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for sports during the Khelo India Dialogue on August 27. The event happened at various locations across the country, including Dibrugarh. Sonowal oversaw the effort with Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Modi personally guided the initiative.
Sonowal told reporters that sports build physical fitness, determination, and character. He believes these traits drive nation-building. The programme saw high turnout and energy in Dibrugarh and beyond. It serves as a lead-up to National Sports Day on August 29. This date honors hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
Former India footballer Bhaichung Bhutia also weighed in on the movement. He pushed for a stronger sporting culture inside colleges and universities. Bhutia said, "He urged people to watch, follow and participate in sports to help build a healthier and more sports-oriented nation." The goal remains clear: turning India into a powerhouse through widespread athletic participation.
