Kohima: Nagaland joins the national celebration of Sports Day on August 27. Officials confirmed the state will host events at 20 colleges spread across 12 districts. This initiative falls under the Khelo India Samwad 2026 and Yuva Connect programs. The state plans to bring together local stakeholders, youth volunteers, and students to talk about nation-building and leadership.
Ruokuovikho Chale of APS MyBharat Nagaland and Pradeep J, District Youth Officer for MyBharat Kohima, broke the news at a press conference in Kohima on Monday, August 24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak to the crowd virtually. He is set to address over 8 lakh participants gathered at roughly 1,600 spots nationwide.
National Sports Day usually falls on August 29 to mark the birthday of hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand. This year, the government moved the schedule forward. The effort aims to build a better sports culture among the youth. Chale said, "The programme will provide a platform for students and youth to discuss the role of sports in personal development, community building and the vision of a Viksit Bharat."
