Kohima: The Chakhesang community organisation, known as CCYO, kicked off the second phase of its indefinite agitation on Monday, October 12. This follows the Nagaland government failing to answer a three-point ultimatum sent to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. The protest intensified after a deadline passed without word from the state.
Protesters picketed three locations on Monday. They hit the Pfutsero Range Office, the Phek Range Office, and the Phek Forest Office. CCYO president Dode Nakro and general secretary Shevoto Vezuh confirmed the actions in a public statement. They claimed the picketing remained disciplined.
The group started its non-cooperation movement at midnight on October 5. That phase included lifting a ban on hunting. The organisation says it will keep the pressure on until the state finally engages. It urged officials to open a dialogue soon. "The organisation urged the state government to acknowledge its three-point demands, initiate meaningful dialogue with its representatives and take concrete steps to resolve the issues without further delay."
Members and the public were asked to stay peaceful and unified. The group did not disclose the specifics of its three demands. They maintain that the current path remains the only way to get a response from the authorities.
