Kohima: Training started October 10 at Indisen Village in Dimapur. The Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan Programme targets the preservation of wooden carving craft. This initiative falls under the National Handicrafts Development Programme managed by the Ministry of Textiles. The Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. is running the event.

Thirty local artisans will study until December 7, 2026. A Master Craftsperson leads the shop. They want to sharpen quality and keep Naga traditions alive. Officials from the Handicrafts Service Centre in Kohima and NHHDC Ltd. attended the launch. They told the workers to master the trade and use government support to build a future.

The agency provides tools, materials, and cash. Workers get a daily stipend for their time. Constant inspections will track the progress of the workshop. During the opening, officials stated, "mastering intricate wooden carving techniques and leveraging government initiatives to create sustainable livelihood opportunities" remains the goal.
