Kohima: The Centre Chakhesang Youth Organisation (CCYO) launched a non-cooperation movement against the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department. This action starts at midnight between October 5 and October 6. It follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum sent to the Chief Minister regarding the detention of Vezhoto Hesuh. The group claims the government failed to meet its demands in toto.
The organisation declared the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972 non-operative within the Centre Chakhesang area effective October 6. Hunting prohibitions will end at the same time. Outsiders and government agency personnel face a total travel ban in these villages until further notice. The CCYO warned that anyone ignoring this faces personal risk. A strict ban on all photography and videography remains in place.
The CCYO cited Article 371A of the Constitution to back its stance. They argue that this law protects Naga land, resources, and traditional institutions from outside interference. The group stated, "Article 371A is not merely a historical provision; it represents a solemn constitutional recognition of the unique relationship of the Naga people with their customary institutions, traditions, land and natural resources." Officials claim they exhausted all reasonable avenues before choosing to revolt.
