Nagaland Congress Demands Removal of Chief Election Commissioner

Kohima: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee members gathered at the Election Secretariat in Kohima on September 25. Led by Lok Sabha MP and state president S. Supongmeren Jamir, the group joined a nationwide agitation organized by the All India Congress Committee. They want Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar out of office.

The protesters zeroed in on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. They cited internal Commission objections regarding these changes and demanded an independent investigation. The party argues that current leadership creates doubt about the independence and impartiality of the Election Commission of India. They want a full review of all recent electoral roll adjustments.

Supongmeren demanded accountability for what the Congress party labels as an attack on voting rights. The party explicitly describes the situation as “treason against the people of India.” They insist that any official found responsible for manipulating the process must face legal action.

The protest underscored a deep lack of faith in the current system. “The vote belongs to the people. No individual, authority or institution has the right to undermine the mandate of the people. We will continue to stand in defence of the Constitution, democracy and the voting rights of every citizen,” Supongmeren told the crowd. The NPCC confirmed it will keep fighting to protect the fairness of future elections.
