Kohima: The Centre Chakhesang Youth Organisation (CCYO) put its members on high alert. The group's seven-day ultimatum to the state government expires October 4. President Dode Nakro ordered all local units to mobilize manpower and resources immediately. The organization wants to bring its grievances to a "logical conclusion."
A strict ban on entry now covers the Centre Chakhesang area, including Lower Khomi, Middle Khomi, Upper Khomi, Pholami, Gidemi, Sakraba, and Porba. Outsiders and government personnel face significant risks if they enter these villages. Officials also banned all photography and videography within these borders. Commuters may still use the Pfutsero-Phek road and traditional Ruvucho footpaths.
The group demands the state withdraw a case against Vezhoto Hesuh and return a seized Great Barbet bird. They also seek an inquiry into claims that officials demanded 1 lakh rupees to release Hesuh. CCYO officials living outside the area must return to their home villages within 48 hours. The group held a rally in Pfutsero on September 28 to start this pressure campaign against the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
