Kohima: Youth Resources and Sports Advisor S. Keoshu Yimchunger opened the State Jamborette 2026 at the State Training Centre in Nerhema on October 7. The event brings the scouting community back together under the theme: Serving Community, Preserving Culture. It is the first such gathering since 2001.
Keoshu, who serves as president of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides, pushed for students across the state to join the program. He emphasized that education goes beyond classroom walls. "Education is not confined to textbooks, examinations, and the classroom," Keoshu told the crowd. He noted that activities like scouting teach critical life skills including leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Chubanungla, the State Chief Commissioner and Jamborette Convenor, welcomed participants from ten districts. These include Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Shamator, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto. The massive group includes members of the Band Party, the Service Team, and various staff.
The schedule is packed. Attendees will showcase talents through folk songs, dances, quizzes, and pageants. Participants will also manage food plazas and district exhibitions. The event promotes living and working together.
The organization also recognized three top achievers during the kickoff. Bikee Dutta, a President Scout Awardee from the 2018-2021 batch at Vidhya Bhawan Higher Secondary School in Dimapur, received honors. Chotanu Natso and Visezonu Natso, both President Guide Awardees from the same batch at Kohima’s Chandmari Higher Secondary School, were also celebrated.
The morning began with a flag hoisting led by SOC (Scout) John Tochimong. The Shamator district folk song team performed for the crowd. Col. Tijo Joseph of the 17 Assam Rifles joined other dignitaries at the opening. The event concludes on October 9 at 3:30 PM, with School Education Advisor Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome scheduled to preside over the closing ceremony.
