Kohima: S. Keoshu Yimchunger, Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports and president of the State Bharat Scouts and Guides, inaugurated the Nagaland State Jamborette 2026 on October 7. The event is taking place at the State Training Centre in Nerhema under the theme: "Serving Community, Preserving Culture."
Yimchunger told the crowd that the jamborette acts as a hub for Scouts and Guides to build friendships and learn new skills. He pushed for education that reaches beyond basic textbooks. He argued that Scouting helps students sharpen leadership and teamwork through real-world service. He urged all students in the state to join the Bharat Scouts and Guides program.
The Advisor hoisted the official flag and accepted a salute from parade contingents representing ten districts: Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Shamator, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto. He also awarded President Scout and President Guide honors to students from Vidya Bhawan Higher Secondary School in Dimapur and Chandmari Higher Secondary School in Kohima.
Nagaland State Chief Commissioner Chubanungla noted the historic scale of the gathering, as it is the first jamborette since 2001. Over the next few days, students will compete in folk song contests, quizzes, and traditional games. The event also features gate displays and food plazas. State Secretary Er. Thepfuzakie Angami delivered the closing vote of thanks. Attendees included Commandant 17 Assam Rifles Tijo Joseph and a medical team from the Kohima Chief Medical Officer’s office.
