Kohima: Nagaland saw a wave of academic and professional activity through mid-September. Students and faculty across the state participated in initiatives focused on community service, engineering innovation, and inclusive education.
The National Service Scheme unit at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, held an orientation on September 16 for 91 new volunteers. Programme Officer Shanchamo Yanthan explained the focus of the group. He noted the guiding motto, "Not Me But You," which encourages students to prioritize community needs over their own. Attendees also took part in a quiz linked to the national mybharat.gov.in portal.
St. Joseph University in Dimapur honored Engineer’s Day on September 15. The Departments of Civil Engineering and Computer Science Engineering partnered with the Institution of Engineers India for the event. Vice Chancellor Dr. D. Gnanadurai urged students to focus on digital tools and sustainable practices. The session included an invocation by Rev. Fr. Dr. L. Anish and a welcome from Assistant Professor N.R. Manikandan.
ICFAI University students visited the Deaf Biblical School in Naharbari on September 15. The group studied sign language mechanics and gestural communication. This field trip linked classroom linguistic theory to real world interactions within the deaf community.
The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research in Chümoukedima marked Xavier Board Week from September 7 to 13. Students completed rural outreach, plantation drives, and health awareness training. These activities highlighted the school commitment to professional social work and community development.
