Kohima: Educational institutions across Nagaland held Khelo India Samvaad sessions on August 27 to mark National Sports Day. The events focused on sports, fitness, and nation-building. Schools and colleges joined forces with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and MY Bharat. Participants watched a virtual address from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Don Bosco College Kohima (DBCK) hosted athletes M Linshilo Yimchunger and Kezevituo Vizo. They discussed infrastructure hurdles. Students Vihezonuo Khezhie, Onghsen Phom, and Müdovelü Keyho debated youth skills. The college honored athletes Rüduolhounuo Rachel and Vichaduonuo Rame. Rachel took silver in the 100m at the 2026 Khelo India Tribal Games. Rame placed third in the 2025 Nagaland Open Table Tennis Championship.
At Mount Tiyi College in Wokha, badminton player Erenbeni P Lotha and volunteer Jandemo M Lotha led a discussion. Nzano P Lotha Kikon of the WTC challenged students to build their talents. She said, "Such programmes could help identify grassroots sporting talent and infrastructure gaps." Jubilee Memorial College and MGM College also held similar discussions. MGM featured Pencak Silat athlete Kevin, who spoke on the grind of international competition.
Newman Higher Secondary School in Tobu brought in local sportsperson Joshua Swu. He pushed kids to start young. Principal Rev Fr Kevishe Solomon urged focus. Pranab College hosted a district-level meet featuring bodybuilding coach Lily Hansu and sprinter Nise Monu Konyak. Attendees took the Nasha Mukt Viksit Bharat pledge after watching films about Major Dhyan Chand. National Sports Day falls on August 29 to honor the hockey legend.
