Kohima: Nagaland officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Friday to relocate the Sports Authority of India Training Centre to the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex in Dimapur. The deal, finalized at the Chief Minister's Residential Complex in Kohima, aims to modernize local athletic training.
Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio called the agreement a new chapter for the state. He expects the move to provide better coaching, living spaces, and scientific support. The government wants to see more athletes succeed. Earlier this month, the state opened 16 other sports infrastructure projects.
Majushree Dayanand, SAI deputy director general, represented the organization during the signing. She said, "Nagaland possesses immense sporting talent." She urged residents to treat sports as a real career path for the youth.
Abu Metha, secretary general of the Nagaland Olympic Association, credited the progress to the vision of Dr. Rio. He called on SAI to build training programs specific to the North East. The new facility will support football, boxing, athletics, and sepak takraw. It includes a sports science center plus housing for male and female athletes.
S. Keoshu Yimkhiung, advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, stated that the partnership proves the government is serious about sports culture. The state continues to invest in grassroots competitions and athlete welfare across the region.
