Dimapur Officials Review Flagship Development and Power Projects

Kohima: Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir chaired back-to-back development meetings in Dimapur on August 19. Officials gathered at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall to assess progress across flagship government schemes and energy infrastructure. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang hosted the sessions.

The District Electricity Committee reviewed the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, a project costing Rs 459.22 crore. This scheme targets smarter power grids, line upgrades, and transformer installations to cut technical losses. Officials discussed resistance to smart meters. Jamir sought clarification on the difficulties in installation, noting, "Jamir sought clarification on difficulties in installing smart meters, particularly in cases where consumers were reluctant to accept the new meters." Authorities have already installed 21,568 consumer meters in Dimapur as of August 14, 2026. Two flying squads now inspect these works to ensure quality control.

Agricultural efforts remain high-priority. The District Agriculture Office reported that 2,928 beneficiaries are registered under PM-KISAN. Other initiatives like natural farming and pulse missions hit 100 percent of their targets. Meanwhile, the Animal Husbandry Department highlighted 14 livestock projects in the district, mostly focused on piggery.

Labour and welfare programs saw similar scrutiny. The Department of Labour confirmed 2,431 construction workers are registered under the state welfare board. Benefits include life insurance and education assistance. The Public Health Engineering Department continues to push sanitation through new toilet construction, while the Social Welfare Department confirmed the submission of old-age pension beneficiary lists.

The meetings concluded with a push for better inter-departmental coordination. Officials emphasized that addressing land-related obstacles is vital to keeping projects on track. Future training for the unemployed remains on the agenda to drive local economic growth.
