Kohima: Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio launched a suite of infrastructure and digital initiatives at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza in Kohima today. The events marked the state's 80th Independence Day. He started by introducing the Education Management Information System, or EMIS. This platform tracks data for over 1,800 government schools. It stores personal records for 100,000 students and digitizes employment files for 22,000 staff members. The system covers the entire student journey from pre-primary through Class 12.
Dr. Rio also commissioned the 10 MW Hovukhu Solar Power Plant located in Niuland District. The facility covers 50 acres and cost Rs 69.26 crore to build. The project features two 5 MW phases that started in April 2022 and December 2023. It generates 12 million units of power annually. Regarding these efforts, officials stated the initiatives represent a, "significant push towards digital governance."
The government also turned its focus to local culture and agriculture. The Chief Minister released books documenting traditional attire and ornaments of the Angami and Sangtam tribes. These were published by the Nagaland Heritage and Handicrafts Development Corporation. Finally, he commissioned the Naga Integrated Settled Farming Irrigation Project at Boke Botsa. Funded by the Chief Minister's New Initiative Scheme, this project cost Rs 150 lakh. It aims to improve water management across the region.
