Kohima: Advisor for Geology and Mining and DUDA, W. Chingang Konyak, took charge as the new chairman of the Mon District Planning and Development Board on July 16. The board gathered at the DC Conference Hall to review past minutes and set new goals. DC Mon Wennyei Konyak welcomed the chairman and promised full backing from the staff. New leadership means new focus.
The chairman pushed for regular meeting attendance and fresh ideas for local development. He addressed the members, stating: "I appeal to officers and members to extend full cooperation for the successful implementation of government schemes and policies in the district." He also handed out awards to top-performing Class 10 and 12 students from across the district.
The board finalized three major project proposals. They approved an Arts stream for New Model College Wakching, a new primary school in Longwa village, and a 1.5 km PWD road in Tobu town. Officials also signed off on LADP schemes for 2026-27, covering Iconic and Skill Development projects for all nine Assembly Constituencies.
The DC held a second meeting later that day to coordinate the 80th Independence Day celebration. Departments divided up the necessary work to prep for the event. The town will hold a mass social work event on August 8 to get ready for the festivities.
