Kohima: Officials across Nagaland gathered on August 6 to handle developmental agendas and Independence Day logistics. The District Planning and Development Board meetings took place in Peren, Tseminyu, and Longleng. These sessions focused on storm recovery, infrastructure projects, and upcoming national celebrations.
Peren Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru oversaw planning at the DC’s Conference Hall. The board set a mass social work event for August 7. They also addressed the status of Government Primary School, Libemphai, which remains open with 26 students despite a closure order. Members formally requested the government to post teachers to the site. The board also gave the green light to LADP/ICONIC schemes for 6 Tening and 7 Peren Assembly Constituencies, plus the registration for the Affected Land Owner Association of NH-129A, Package-1A.
Tseminyu officials focused on local coordination. Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch chaired the meeting and assigned specific duties to stakeholders for the August 15 celebrations. The Department of Horticulture provided a report on district activities. Assistant Urban Development Officer L. Rokovono pushed for better solid waste management, with the DC emphasizing the need for collective action. The DC stated, "The DC stressed collective responsibility and timely preparation of local action plans involving departments, NGOs and civil bodies."
Longleng faced more immediate environmental threats. Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom noted that relentless rain severed road links and damaged telecommunications. Agricultural departments must now assess the destruction to farmlands, forests, and homes. The meeting also tackled infrastructure, including a proposal for drainage from the Eastern Naga Women Organisation and an update on the 132/133 KV substation at Pongo village. A mass social work session is set for August 8.
Separately, Mon Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak announced that his district board will convene on August 13 at 11:30 a.m. Members are expected at the DC’s office hall to handle the August 2026 agenda.
