Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav visited Longwa village on Tuesday to survey damage from the July 19 floods and landslides. The disaster caused significant destruction throughout Mon district. Lives were lost. Families are struggling.
Yadav spoke at the residence of Chief Angh Tonyei Konyak. He demanded a push for rehabilitation and road repairs. Future construction needs to respect the environment. He urged residents to follow building codes and official warnings to mitigate future risks. During the event, Yadav stated, “Development and environmental protection must go hand in hand.”
Konyak Students Union president Temwang Konyak reported that 318 students and seven schools were impacted by the event. Chief Angh Tonyei Konyak requested an urgent upgrade for road connectivity to the border village. Longwa sits on the India-Myanmar boundary, with the chief’s house split between the two countries.
Yadav praised the local response teams. The list includes the District Administration, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, State Disaster Response Force, police, security forces, line departments, churches, and youth groups. He told the local youth to lead the way in disaster management.
Konyak Union president Yamao Konyak briefed the Governor on the district’s losses. Yadav arrived at the 42 Assam Rifles helipad in Longwa. He was met by Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak, Superintendent of Police, MP Phangnon Konyak, and Advisors Konngam Konyak and Tonyei Konyak. The Governor promised continued support from both central and state governments to rebuild the region.
