Kohima: Landslides in Mon district have claimed nine lives and left schools in ruins. The Eastern Naga Students' Federation (ENSF) traveled to the site to survey the wreckage. President Nuheymong Yim and his executive team walked the grounds. They met with victims, local leaders, and officials to document the disaster.
Many families are still waiting for news of missing loved ones. Search crews continue to comb the debris after days of failed attempts to recover those lost. The federation offered condolences to the survivors and those grieving.
State authorities moved quickly to manage the crisis. Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio visited the district to review damages and pledge relief. The ENSF thanked the Chief Secretary, the Home Commissioner, the NPSC, the Department of Technical Education, and the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union for their help. The Indian Army and the Advisor for Transport provided helicopter services. This airlift saved students stranded during critical exams.
Education took a heavy hit. Buildings are now unsafe. Students have lost textbooks, uniforms, and vital academic records. The federation wants the government to act now. They issued a formal plea to "undertake an immediate assessment of the damage to educational institutions and provide necessary financial and logistical assistance for reconstruction and restoration."
Officials must replace lost documents fast. Students cannot fall behind. The ENSF remains committed to the relief effort. They hope for a strong, collective push to rebuild the region.
