Kohima: The Eastern Naga Students' Federation is pushing the Nagaland government to fix damaged schools in Mon district. Recent landslides killed nine people and left buildings unsafe. The Federation's president, Nuheymong Yim, and his executive team toured the site to meet with victims and local officials. Search crews are still looking for missing people. The group expressed its "profound grief and deepest condolences" to families mourning their losses.
Students lost everything. Textbooks, uniforms, and academic records vanished in the mud. Many schools now sit empty as learning remains halted. The Federation praised Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for his site visit and relief efforts. They also thanked the Chief Secretary, the Home Commissioner, the Nagaland Public Service Commission, the Department of Technical Education, and the Eastern Nagaland Legislators' Union for hearing their concerns.
Transport officials and the Indian Army stepped in to run helicopter flights. This helped stranded students reach their exams. Now, the Federation wants more. They demanded that the state "undertake an immediate assessment of the damage to educational institutions and provide necessary financial and logistical assistance for reconstruction and restoration." Official help must include replacing lost documents and keeping students in the classroom.
