Kohima: The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) handed out 8,50,000 rupees to families in Mon district hit by recent accidents and natural disasters. The funds helped 103 students whose houses were ruined or damaged. It also supported families mourning the loss of loved ones. Money came from the Catholic schools across Nagaland after an appeal from secretary Rev. Fr. Dr. Jacob Charalel.
Students, parents, teachers, and school managers donated. They worked together to show support. Relief sessions occurred at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and St. John Higher Secondary School. Affected families received 15,000 rupees each. Individual students got 9,000 rupees.
On August 19, the CEDOK team visited homes of families who lost members during the July 19 landslide. They offered prayers for the survivors. Mon Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak praised the church during the event. "The DC Mon emphasised disaster preparedness and safety measures, urging residents to remain vigilant given the region’s vulnerability to natural calamities."
CEDOK thanked DC Mon Wennyei Konyak, EAC Imlong Chaba, the Konyak Union, and the All Nagaland Private Schools Association Mon unit for help with the project. They also credited Konyak Students’ Union, Don Bosco principal Rev. Fr. Lawrence Elow, and Pangnyei Konyak. Everyone worked to ensure the aid reached the victims without delay.
