Kohima Legal Authority Hosts Student Rights Workshop in Tseminyu

Kohima: The Kohima District Legal Services Authority hit Government Higher Secondary School in Tseminyu on August 18. They brought the National Legal Services Authority common action plan to the classroom. Around 150 students and teachers gathered to hear about the 2024 schemes. Three panel lawyers and one Para Legal Volunteer led the session.

Panel lawyer Berta Tep broke down the Child Friendly Legal Services for Children Scheme 2024. She covered the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. Tep also explained laws regarding child marriage, cyber safety, and the Right to Education. She taught the group how to use Child Helpline services to report abuse. She emphasized the legal protections and support available for children, along with mechanisms for reporting abuse and violations.

Panel lawyer Kusalu Lohe spoke next. She focused on the NALSA MANO NYAY 2024 initiative. This program provides legal support for people living with mental illness or intellectual disabilities. Lohe detailed the rights and services currently available through the MANO NYAY/LSUM unit for those who need extra help.
